The Appachatty cooking utensil is used to make Appam/Paalappam.
This non-stick Appachatty with lid has the following unique properties:
Healthy eating: Requires 60% less oil than conventional cooking
Saves Fuel: Because of uniform heating and better absorbtion
Tastier Cooking: Food particles don't stick or burn
Easy to Clean: No scrubbing or scouring required just wipe clean with liquid cleaner and plastic cleaning pad.
Recipe for Paalappam:
Ingredients:
2 cups Ponni Raw Rice (rinsed and soaked in 1 cup of water)
200ml Coconut Milk (or half coconut finely grated and milk removed)
1/2 tsp Yeast
1 tsp Sugar
1 cup cooked Ponni Raw Rice
Method:
1. Gently warm 100ml of the coconut milk until tepid.
2. Grind the raw rice (with the water it was soaked in), remaining coconut milk and the cooked raw rice to a smooth, thick batter.
3. Add the warm coconut milk, yeast and sugar and mix well. Leave the mixture to stand for 6 to 7 hours.
4. Heat the Appachatty on medium heat and pour some of the mix in a spiral motion from the outside to the centre of the Appachatty.
Add Sugar or Salt to taste.
Approx 23cm diameter x 9cm high (9" x 3.5"), 2mm thickness.
