Coconut Chutney

Coconut Chutney is a spicy South Indian side dish generally served with Dosa (Pan cakes), Idlis (steamed rice cakes), Medu Vada etc. Freshly grated Coconut along with other indian spices ground together tastes yummy! The consistency of this chutney can be either liquid or thick depending on one's choice. Add Water accordingly.

Ingredients:

Fresh Coconut grated - 1 Cup
 
  Green Chillies - 2  
  Ginger grated - 1 tsp  
  Roasted split gram - 1 tbsp  
  Salt to taste  
  For the Tempering  
  Oil - 1 tsp  
  Mustard Seeds - ½ tsp  
  Pinch of Asafoetida  
  Few fresh Curry Leaves  

Method:

• Grind Coconut, Green Chillies, Split gram, Ginger and Salt into a paste. Add a bit of Water while grinding.Keep this in a bowl.

• Heat Oil in a small Pan, add Mustard Seeds and allow it to splutter. Then add Asafoetida and Curry Leaves.

• Pour this tempering over the Chutney and mix well and serve.
