Cooking Directions:
This Basmati Rice when cooked to the directions below, will turn into long, thin, separated grains with a wonderful aroma.
Try any of these 3-cooking methods:
Method 1:
1. Wash 250g (8oz) of Basmati Rice thoroughly and soak for 20-minutes for softness (Optional).
2. Add rice to 2 pints of lightly salted boiling water, boil for 8-minutes.
3. Drain in a sieve then transfer the rice into a serving bowl and stir in a little butter or margarine (whichever preferred) to maintain separation of grain – then serve.
Method 2 : Pilau Rice:
1. Wash 250g (8oz) of Basmati Rice and soak for 20-minutes.
2. Fry 1-thinly sliced onion until lightly brown, add 1-teaspoon of whole cumin seeds, then add rice and stir thoroughly.
3. Finally, add 425ml (just over ½-pint) lightly salted water. Bring to the boil and cover with a lid. Simmer fo 10-15 minutes on a low heat, stirring occasionally until water is fully absorbed.
4. Remove from the heat, allow to stand for 5-minutes, then serve.
Method 3:
1. Wash 250g (8oz) of Basmati Rice and put into a deep microwave bowl.
2. Add 440ml (about ¾-pint) of lightly salted water. Cover and cook for 14-minutes on maximum power. Stand for 5-minutes, then serve.
