The Jhelum river is the mot westerly of the five rivers of the Punjab. Rising in Kashmir, the cold clear waters flow south, passing by the town of Jhelum, famous for its timber industry and the lush pady fields from where the finest Pakistani basmati rice is grown.
From these abundant fertile fields, Habib harvest the pick of the crop to guarantee quality, consistency and a unique flavour.
No need to rinse. For a softer grain, soak in cold water for 15-30 minutes before cooking.
Open Pan Method:
• Place 225g rice in a large pan. Add around 1.25 litres boiling water. Return to the boil, stir then simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.
• Drain and rinse with boiling water before serving.
Covered Pan Method:
• Place 225g rice in a large pan. Add 450ml cold water. Bring to the boil, stir once, cover and simmer gently or 10 minutes.
• Remove from heat and stand for 10 minutes before serving.
