Hoisin Sauce - Lee Kum Kee - 397g

A spicy sweet sauce made from sweet potatoes, soybeans and sesame seeds - ideal for stir fries.

Recipe suggestions:

Shrimp with Hoisin Sauce:

• Stir fry 1 tbsp minced garlic with 350g shrimp for 2 minutes.

• Add 120g diced green peppers, 120g diced red peppers, 2 tbsp Hoisin Sauce and 1 tbsp Oyster flavoured sauce and stir fry for 1 minute.

Crispy Bean Curd with Hoisin Sauce:

• Mix 300g soft bean curd/tofu (drained and mashed) with 50g finely diced carrot, 25g Chinese mushrooms (soaked and diced), 1tsp blended sesame oil, ½ tsp salt and ¼ tsp pepper.

• Place the bean curd mix on a greased baking tray and steam for 8 minutes until cooked. Allow to cool and cut into pieces.

• Make a batter from 2 tbsp corn starch, 120g self raising flour, 125 ml water and 1 tbsp oil. Coat the bean curd in the batter and deep fry in hot oil until golden brown. Drain on kitchen paper.

• Mix 4 tbsp Hoisin Sauce, 1 finely diced red chilli, 6 tbsp water and ½ tsp corn starch. Bring to the boil and pour over the crispy bean curd. Serve immediately.
