Yellow Dal or Dal Tadka is a commonly known Dal recipe in Indian Cusine. Dal is nothing but dried lentils. This is eaten with either Rice or any Indian Bread. Dals are a very good source of protein in a Vegetarian diet!

Serves:

2

Preparation Time:

15 mins

Cooking Time:

20 mins

Ingredients:

Toor Dal - ½ Cup

  Water - 3 Cups

Garlic finely chopped - 1 tsp

Ginger finely chopped - 1 tsp

  Green Chillies slit - 1 or 2

Red Chilli Powder (Optional) - 1 tsp

  Asafoetida - ¼ tsp

  Turmeric - ¼ tsp

  Oil - 2 tbsp

  Mustard Seeds - 1 tsp

  Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp

  Few Curry Leaves

  Salt to taste

Coriander Leaves (Cilantro) chopped for garnishing

Method:

• Soak Toor Dal in Water for 10-15min as this would make the Dal soft and decrease the cooking time.

• Pressure cook the Dal and wait for the pressure to be released completely and then open the Cooker.

• Heat Oil in a pan, add Mustard Seeds and allow it to splutter. Then add Cumin Seeds, Asafoetida, Turmeric Powder, Green Chillies and Ginger-Garlic. Then add Curry Leaves and stir for few seconds.

• To this add the cooked Dal. Add some Salt and mix well. Simmer and cook for few minutes.

• Garnish with Coriander Leaves and serve hot with Rice or Naan!
