Tarka Dal
Yellow Dal/Dal Tadka

Yellow Dal or Dal Tadka is a commonly known Dal recipe in Indian Cusine. Dal is nothing but dried lentils. This is eaten with either Rice or any Indian Bread. Dals are a very good source of protein in a Vegetarian diet!

15 mins
Cooking Time:
20 mins
Ingredients:
Toor Dal
- ½ Cup
Water - 3 Cups
Garlic
finely chopped - 1 tsp
Ginger
finely chopped - 1 tsp
Green Chillies
slit - 1 or 2
Red Chilli Powder
(Optional) - 1 tsp
Asafoetida
- ¼ tsp
Turmeric
- ¼ tsp
Oil
- 2 tbsp
Mustard Seeds
- 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds
- 1 tsp
Few
Curry Leaves
Salt
to taste
Coriander Leaves (Cilantro)
chopped for garnishing
Method:
• Soak
Toor Dal
in Water for 10-15min as this would make the Dal soft and decrease the cooking time.
• Pressure cook the
Dal
and wait for the pressure to be released completely and then open the Cooker.
• Heat
Oil
in a pan, add
Mustard Seeds
and allow it to splutter. Then add
Cumin Seeds
,
Asafoetida
,
Turmeric Powder
,
Green Chillies
and
Ginger
-
Garlic
. Then add
Curry Leaves
and stir for few seconds.
• To this add the cooked Dal. Add some
Salt
and mix well. Simmer and cook for few minutes.
• Garnish with
Coriander Leaves
and serve hot with
Rice
or
Naan
!
