Ponni Raw Rice - Top-Op

Ponni derives its name from the word Gold. Farmers in the region believe Ponni is a 'blessing of Gold' from the rivers that nourish the fertile fields of the South. Perfect for making tangy Tamarind rice or delicious Tomato rice, Top-Op Ponni Rice is an ideal acompaniment to all your favourite dishes.

Cooking Methods:

Open Pan Cooking: Rinse the rice thoroughly under running water. Bring a large pan of water to a rolling boil. Add the rice, stir, return to a medium boil and cook uncovered for 10 minutes. Drain off excess water.

Covered pan Cooking: Rinse the rice thoroughly under running water. Put 2.5 units water and 1 unit of rice into a large heavy based pan. Bring it to boil, stir, cover and turn down to a gentle simmer for 10 minutes. Turn off the heat and allow to stand, still covered for 5 minutes.

Pressure Cooking: Rinse the rice thoroughly under running water. Put 2 cups water and 1 cup of rice into the pressure cooking vessel. Close the lid and cook at medium flame for 8 minutes. Turn off flame and release pressure. Allow to stand covered for 5 minutes before serving.
